Day overview

Day 1
Your adventure begins in Padang, the capital of West Sumatra. After meeting your guide, we embark on a 8 to 9-hour drive toward Kayu Aro, a highland village at the foot of Mount Kerinci—the highest volcano in Indonesia. By late afternoon, we arrive in Kayu Aro, where the cool mountain air welcomes us. We settle into a guesthouse or homestay, where you’ll have time to rest before our jungle trek begins the next day. In the evening, enjoy a briefing with your guide, preparing for the adventure ahead. Get a good night’s rest—tomorrow, we head deep into the jungle!
Day 2
An early departure from Kayu Aro towards our starting point, a 1,5 hour ride towards Sungai Penuh where we do the last shopping. We take a short drive to the trailhead, where our adventure begins. The trek starts with an ascent into the dense rainforest, following old animal trails and hopefully hearing the calls of gibbons echoing through the trees. Along the way, we’ll cross hanging vines, bubbling streams, welcome to the real jungle! By late afternoon, we reach our first campsite deep in the jungle. As night falls, enjoy a campfire dinner and listen to the sounds of the rainforest.
Day 3
Wake up to the sounds of nature and fuel up with a jungle breakfast. Today’s trek takes us deeper into the rainforest. We will navigate muddy trails, cross small rivers, and look for signs of wildlife—scratch marks on trees, footprints in the mud, or fresh dung from possible tigers. By afternoon, we reach one of the hidden wonders of Kerinci Seblat: Danau Kaco—a surreal blue lake in the middle of the jungle. Take a refreshing dip, explore the surroundings, and enjoy a well-earned rest. As the sun sets, we set up camp next to the lake.
Day 4
After breakfast, we continue trekking into even more remote jungle terrain. Our guide will show you how to read footprints and spot fresh tiger tracks. We take our time, moving silently and scanning the jungle for movement. If we’re extremely lucky, we might glimpse a wild tiger in its natural habitat—a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Even if not, we’ll see plenty of signs of these incredible creatures. By late afternoon, we return to a different jungle campsite, where we enjoy our last night in the rainforest.
Day 5
On our final day, we wake up with the sunrise and begin the trek back toward civilization. The jungle slowly fades behind us as we reach the edge of the forest, where our transport is waiting. After a short drive back to Sungai Penuh, it's time to say goodbye—but the memories of this wild adventure will stay with you forever. Transport back to Padang is waiting, a 10 hour drive with a late evening arrival.
