About us

At Footprints Indonesia – Adventure Travels, we aim to inspire adventure by creating real and unforgettable experiences. Our trips highlight Indonesia’s rich culture, stunning landscapes, and unique traditions. We believe in responsible tourism—building genuine connections with the places we visit and making a positive difference for local communities.

Footprints Indonesia started in January 2024  but the idea of starting a travel agency has been on my mind since 2018, right after I began running my internship agency in Bali. The goal is to help people who want to explore more adventurous places but don’t know where to go or how to plan it.

During my travels around Indonesia, I realized that not many people organize trips like I do, but a lot of people love hearing my stories. Many of them dream about visiting remote places but have no clue how to start. That’s why I created Footprints Indonesia – Adventure Travel: to make these kinds of trips possible.

Another reason for starting this agency is to make tourism more sustainable. Travel will happen anyway, so why not make it better for the places we visit? My aim is to create positive impacts by including cleanup activities and education programs, helping to preserve the beauty of Indonesia’s nature and culture.

Footprints Indonesia offers trips to many destinations across Indonesia. You can book a full package or just specific parts. For example, you can book a trip to climb Gunung Kerinci with one night’s stay, a guide, and permits, or you can make it part of a two-week tour of Sumatra. Trips can be split into smaller parts or combined into bigger packages. On the website, it will be easy to see prices and add extra trips or activities. I also plan to offer hourly travel advice or consultations for people who need help planning their journeys.

Julian Niewold – Co-Founder of Footprints Indonesia Adventure Travel

Julian Niewold’s life has been a journey of travel, adventure, and social work. Born and raised in the Netherlands, his perspective on life changed dramatically when he began exploring the world. Before completing his social work degree in Amsterdam, Julian travelled extensively through South America and Asia. These experiences sparked his love for discovering new cultures and fuelled his passion for adventure.
In 2007, Julian visited Indonesia for the first time and immediately felt a deep connection. The vibrant culture, warm people, and stunning landscapes left a lasting impression. By 2011, he had relocated to Indonesia and began exploring its vast archipelago—from the westernmost points to the far east and everything in between. His travels included climbing volcanoes, trekking through jungles, and embracing the country’s natural beauty.
Julian’s dedication to helping others also shaped his path. He worked as a coordinator for mentally disabled children in Indonesia, combining his professional skills with a deep understanding of local culture. Later, he launched an internship agency in Bali, connecting international students with meaningful learning opportunities in Indonesia. This initiative supported local communities while fostering cross-cultural understanding.
Now, Julian has embarked on his next venture with Footprints Indonesia Adventure Travel. His mission is to share his love for Indonesia by helping others explore its beauty and culture while ensuring tourism leaves a positive impact on local communities and the environment. Together with his wife, Dahlia—who has roots in both Sumatra and Java—Julian is crafting unique travel experiences that go beyond the ordinary. These trips are about adventure, learning, and making a meaningful difference.
As Julian’s old neighbour once told him, “These memories are yours forever, and no one can take them away from you.”
